Mary "Carolyn" Griffin, age 85, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away at home on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Carolyn was born in Columbus, Georgia on October 26,1939, daughter of the late Samuel McGlohen McCarthy and Carolyn Dennard McCarthy.
Carolyn was adventurous and loved to travel. Her favorite hobbies included being outdoors, going fishing, and spending time at the beach with family and friends. She was employed as an office clerk at Georgia Crown Distributors and retired with over 30 years of service. Carolyn was a devout consumer of Coca-Cola, an avid Alabama football fan, only ever hollering the words “Roll Tide,” and was affectionately known as the QVC Queen. She was the oldest of four children and was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a friend to many.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, James Griffin; her parents, Carolyn Dennard McCarthy and Samuel McCarthy; her daughter, Mary Jacqueline (Jackie) Bailey; her grandson, Andrew Bailey Dempsey; and her sister, Elizabeth McCarthy Pollock. She is survived by her daughter Susan Elizabeth Bailey of Phenix City, Alabama; her grandchildren Destinee Elizabeth Harrison (Keenon), Katlyn Nicole Owens (Jonathan) all of Phenix City, Alabama, and David Joshua Nixon (Sissy) of Columbus, Georgia; her great grandsons, Walker Brandon Owens and Hudson Andrew Harrison; her brothers Gene McCarthy (Peggy) of Cummings, Georgia and Sam McCarthy of Columbus, Georgia; nieces, Ashley Pollock Barhoumi (Chaker), Meredith Margis (Robby), and Mallory McCarthy; nephews, Brad Pollock (Tiffany) and Matt McCarthy (Courtney); great nephews, Eli and Jude Barhoumi; and many other extended family members and caring friends.
A Celebration of Life honoring Carolyn will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
