Marian Rice Poovey

Marian Rice Poovey, age 84, resident of Columbus, died on Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 First Avenue, Columbus on Thursday, July 14, 2016, 11 a.m. with Reverend (Dr.) E. Jones Doughton officiating. Private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday, July 14, 2016.

Mrs. Poovey was born to the late Charles Henry Rice and Gertrude Dismer Rice on June 4, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia. The family moved to Columbus in 1972 after having lived in various states while her husband served in the Air Force. Mrs. Poovey was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was active in Circle 5 and the Stephen Ministry. She received an honorary life membership in Presbyterian Women.

Mrs. Poovey was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Poovey, Sr. and a brother, Richard Henry Rice. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Poovey Kennedy and her husband Butch of Kittery Point, Maine; a son, William B. Poovey, Jr. of Columbus; a sister, Dorothy Rice Stewart of Birmingham, Alabama; sister-in-law, Denise Rice of Atlanta, Georgia; a cousin Judith Mitchell and her husband Fred W. Mitchell, Jr. of Columbus; nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1100 1st Avenue, Columbus, Georgia 31901 or a favorite charity.
