Lois Lorane CHAMBERS, age 89, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021. A celebration of Lois' life for Lois will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia.
Lois was born May 26, 1932 in Bassett, Arkansas; the daughter of Joe C. Williams and Winnie V. Towenson Williams. Lois married Jesse Walter Chambers on October 31, 1950 in Mississippi. She earned her real estate license and worked in the Columbus area with SPI Realty for numerous years, she was a member of the Georgia Realtors Million Dollar Club. Lois was a member of the Red Hat Society and Friends Unlimited. She enjoyed being active, going out with her friends, to dancing events, social calls, to get a bite to eat, or to have a cocktail together. Lois loved to travel, having traveled all throughout Europe the Caribbean Islands and as a military wife lived in Germany, Panama, Fort Campbell, Fort Bragg and Fort Benning.
Lois was an accomplished ballroom dance instructor and has danced all over the world. Her love for dance led her to teach at Arthur Murray Studios. When she would dance, she would glide across the dance floor and others would stop in awe to watch her elegance and grace.
Lois loved all aspects of gardening. Having grown up on a farm she wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty. Her adult life was surrounded with a wide variety of plants both indoor and outdoor including a beautiful array of flowers and fruits in her yard. She thoroughly enjoyed seeing the butterflies, bees and hummingbirds that would come to enjoy her floriculturist hobby.
Lois was an avid reader of mystery novels as she enjoyed many authors but her favorites were Agatha Christie, Ellery Quinn and Sherlock Holmes.
As much as she loved her work and her friends, nothing could compare to the love she had for her four sons and their families. Lois also had a special bond with her sister Jewel Silva and her husband Lionel of North Carolina. Lois spent several years traveling to their homes in Rhode Island and the Outer Banks.
Lois was a social butterfly, she knew how to network and bring people together to let them shine. She loved and accepted people for who they are. Her passion for entertaining ensured all would have a great time. Lois knew how to celebrate life, she lived life to its fullest.
She is preceded in death by: a son, William Howard Chambers; sisters, Carry May, Louise, Mamie Joe, Eunice and Meldonna; brothers, Rube Columbus, Reese, Emroy G., T.J. and Charles Edward.
Survivors included: her dear sister who is 99 Jewel I. Silva (Lionel); sons, Jesse (Bonnie), Joseph (Bobbi), Marcus (Angela), daughter in law Alice and grandchildren, Joseph C. Jr. (JC), Jaxson, Austin Chesteen, Austin Utley, Josh Carter (Morgan), Bruce Blount (Katrina), Robert Blount.
