Late on Christmas Eve, Lillie Belle Britton Allen, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, James O. and Ruth Britton, her brothers and sisters James (Junior), Annie Mae, Joe, Doyle, Robert, Charles, Margie and Wayne, and her husband of 66 years Wilbur Gene Allen.
Funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. Rodney David Porter and held this Thursday, December 27th at Striplin Terrace United Methodist Church in Columbus, GA, where she was a member, with Visitation at 10:00 AM EST, Funeral Service at 11:00 AM EST and lunch served immediately thereafter in the Fellowship Hall.
Lillie’s passion was raising her two children and FLOWERS. She absolutely loved flowers! She started the Trillium Garden Club in her local north Columbus neighborhood, was past President of The Flower Workshop of Columbus, and later became a member of The Columbus Council of Garden Clubs and The Garden Club of Georgia. She served as a Master Judge of flower arrangements across the Southeast at the Annual Chattahoochee Valley Fair, Callaway Gardens, Highlands, NC, among others. She continually studied and learned how to become more knowledgeable about flower arrangements. She attended seminars at the University of Georgia, Ohara School of Ikebana and other well-respected places of study for the art of floral arrangements. Later, she taught the next generation of master flower judges how to do what she loved to do. Lillie was a past President of The Christian Women’s Club of Columbus, GA.
She is survived by her son Gene Allen (wife, Susan Williams Allen), daughter Pamela Allen Parmer, grandchildren Michelle Parmer, Paige Parmer, Hunter Allen and Sam Allen (Fiancé, Rachel Bassett of West Palm Beach, FL), brother Rubin Britton Sr. (wife, Peggy Britton), nephew Rubin “Britt” Britton (wife, Shari McAlister Britton), Britt and Shari’s daughters Taylor and Katie, and Lillie’s great niece Karrie Britton Ledford of Charleston, SC.
