LTG (Ret.) George Raymond Stotser, went to be with the Lord July 1, 2022. For those of us who knew and loved him, this marks the completion of his time to walk among us, but there is no end to his impact on our hearts, no closing on his legacy of leadership and love. There are many ways to define success in life and George Stotser achieved it in ways that truly matter.
George was born April 21, 1935 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. He was the youngest of four, born to Garold and Retha Marie Stotser. He attended Middle Tennessee State University in Mufreesboro, Tennessee where he met the woman who would become his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Anne Lewis.
It was his army career that would define the rest of his life. This included tours across the U.S., two deployments to Vietnam, with 12 years of his 35 year career service in Germany. His assignments required progressive growth in leadership and vision as he rose through the ranks. He was a “Soldier’s Soldier”, always happiest when working and interacting with fellow soldiers.
His favorite assignment was commanding the 3rd Infantry Division (Rock of the Marne) in Wurtzburg, Germany. He loved every minute of being a Dogface Soldier.
George would point to family and fatherhood as his most important endeavors. He deeply loved and was loved by his sons, his grandsons, and great grandson taking pleasure in giving them practical advice and encouragement. George would tell you these are the successes in life that truly matter.
George is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Don, and his sister Patsy Parkes. He is survived by his wife Dot, his sister Joann Abbott, his sons Ron (Carol), Rick (Debbie), grandsons Greg (Anna), Raymond, Nathan, and Jacob as well as his great grandson Asher.
Visitation will be held at 9:30AM Friday, July 15, 2022, at the Main Post Infantry Chapel at Ft. Benning, GA, followed by the funeral services at 10:30AM. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA.
