I have looked for your Facebook since I moved from Columbus you were the best teacher a little girl could ever ask for. There are way to many memories to put on here but I’m just now learning the news and I just wanted to let your family and loved ones know that you made a huge impact on my life. I spent two years in your class and honestly I am extremely grateful to have met such a wonderful soul at such a young age. I love you and thank you.

I met Leslie when we were both freshman at LaGrange College. Leslie made fast friends with all of the girls in our dorm with her pithy remarks as we all shared a communal bathroom. And with only one bathroom on our hall of 20 girls, you can imagine there was never a lack of material for her to work with! 

As we all went through sorority rush, I was struck by Leslie's kindness. She always sought out the shy, and socially awkward girls to befriend; the people that nobody else noticed. And once we had all pledged our sororities, Leslie was one of the few girls who didn't stay between the carefully drawn sorority lines; she remained friends with every group. She never met a stranger and knew everyone by name, but loved handing out clever nicknames to her friends. A girl in our dorm who bravely killed a gargantuan spider was crowned "Spider Chump" because "she made a chump out of that spider!" I favored granola for breakfast, so I quickly became "Meriola-Granola." A wealthy frat boy friend was "Dollar Bill."

Leslie's optimism was undeniable. Nothing could ever get her down, and when we were roommates, our senior year, I remember many friends coming to her for her advise and wise council. I will always remember her bedroom in our off campus apartment: pink and white bedspread with a gun rack hanging over her bed!

Lanie said "to know Leslie was to love her." What a true statement that is! She was an exceptional person and it gave me such joy to hear Lanie's words today and to realize that she has inherited all of her mother's best traits: her humor, kindness, intelligence and poise. What an honor it is to call her my friend. God bless you Lesliola! You are so loved and prayed for!

Les.....I've known you since I was fifteen and I ain't fifteen any more as I hit double nickles next Saturday. I know I went to Jordan but shop math tells me that's forty years. 

You have been a true friend to me all that time from riding around in your Grand Prix with t-tops (sweet ride) to antiquing in Madison, GA when I lived in Athens many years later. We always said you and I have a special connection kinda like family or brother and sister. "I going to miss you my sister,my friend".

I know you are driving that sweet Grand Prix in heaven now listening to some Bee Gees on 8-track. You are not in any pain, you don't hurt anymore. You keep it live up there cause we will see you soon,

Prayers offered up at this moat difficult time...

I guess I don't really have one big memory of Ms.Leslie, but more like a hundred small memories strung together over time. She was in a phrase, the "cool mom". She let Lanie paint her room lime green while mine was still covered in wallpaper with pink roses. She gave me my first taste of real mayo instead of the miracle whip I was used to. She bought us sun-in and poured lemon juice on our heads so we could be as blonde as we dreamed to be. She encouraged us to be silly and crazy when middle school encouraged everyone to be a carbon copy. We watched soap operas and stayed up way too late. She was one of the bravest people I knew. Those tiny memories are from many many years ago, but they will always be in my mind when I think of her. Praying for you guys! She will be missed dearly.

Leslie, you were a true inspiration. Thank you so much for making my wonderful brother in law happy. Bo loved you more than words could ever express. I will never forget the first time that we met. You had the face of an angel. Heaven gained our beautiful angel. I loved you Leslie. I will see you one day on the other side. I know that Bo is already looking forward to that day to.

Leslie was one of those rare people that had the gift of knowing how to make anyone laugh! The many memories that I have of us as children and our mischief played on Odell and her brothers always ended with everyone howling in laughter, and Leslie always leading the way. She grew to be one of the strongest women I have known and inspired so many, myself included in her life's journey. Leslie, you will be sorely missed and always loved! Bo, Laney, Terry, Ms. Jane, and the rest of Leslie's family and loved ones, my prayers and thoughts will be with you always.

Lanie and Family,  Leslie was an amazing woman who fought a good fight.  I am so sorry for your loss.  I pray for peace and comfort for all of you.

I am so blessed that I got to know you!  You always said that I blessed you,  but little did you know. .you were the blessing!  I will always remember you Leslie!  You will never be forgotten!  And I know you will be with Jesus!  Thanks for being a sweet friend.  I love you!

One of my fondest memories occurred on graduation night. Can't recall if it was Leslie's or mine since we attended different schools.  We were just new high school grads riding around. Me and Leslie were in the front seat and one of my friends and one of hers in the back seat. Guess we got board so Leslie suggested that we go out to the cabin which I believe was family owned. The road/driveway to it was not much bigger than a little pig trail with tall trees on both sides. I remember it being a very dark night. The only thing we could see was what the headlights lit up in front of us. Almost like a scene out of a scary movie. I'm going along slowly when I hit the brakes. Out of nowhere there is a person standing in front of us with a gun! A very large gun!  My friend in the back seat is hollering "He is going to shoot us!" I'm sitting there white knuckles frozen to the steering wheel! We sat there for a second and before we could stop her, Leslie says she will handle this, gets out and slams the door!  At this point the three of us in the car are mortified as she walks up to this mysterious gun toting figure. She proceeds to lash out a barrage of words that would make any sailor in the Navy proud!. After a minute or so, the person walks away and disappears back into the dark. Leslie walked back to the car and calmly got in. The three of us I'm sure are looking completely dumbfounded at her when she said "What? that?" That was my brother, now drive!"   Woo!  Loved that gal, always have, always will.

My beautiful Leslie, l am saddened by your passing without me being able to tell you one more time how much l treasured your friendship and loved you!! You were one of the most beautiful, inside and out, friends l have ever known! May your family be comforted in knowing you are with Jesus... and my sweet Heath. Hug him for me... We will see you both again.... Love you sweet girl!!!

I am so sorry to hear about Leslie. She was kind enough to be my first high dchool date to a musketeer party. It was a blast and i will always remember her kindness and fun personality.

I will cherish my friendship with her forever. Bo I am so glad she found her true love with you.You helped her to laugh and love again,and for this I  love you too. She was a one of a kind. When she loved she loved with all her heart and soul. She touched so many young lives as a teacher and all these children are better from having had her as their teacher.Be free now my friend. I am so sorry to hear of Leslie's passing. RIP, my Phi Mu sister.

I thought of this poem we were given as a pledge class and I think it describes her perfectly. 

A Phi Mu is a girl who has moon glow in her hair, stardust in her eyes, and heaven in her smile.

Her impish grin is sunshine on a cloudy day. 

Its warmth is a caress which peeps through your troubles and quickly dries your tears.

She is a girl in a pink lace dress who looks for all the world like a princess in spite of the freckles on her nose.

She is beauty sitting cross-legged in bermuda shorts, giving motherly advice.

She is a sister, mother, and friend - all rolled into one.

She can be playful, coy, and even mischievous.

She has the power to lift your hopes with one glance, one twinkle of those laughing eyes.

When she smiles, she brings courage and hope to your heart.

Laughter precedes her; happiness walks with her; peace follows her.

She means everything to me - she is my Phi Mu girl!

 Leslie is a true inspiration to all who hear her story. She was kind, beautiful and generous. She loved life and was a true survivor. I can hear her saying, "What's up chick-a-dee.": I am praying for her family and friends.Thanks to you, dear Leslie, for being a wonderful friend when I needed you most.

Leslie will be missed by all who knew her. Her smile and personality would light up a room, and she captivated and engaged the children she taught. I had the privilege of watching her teach and learning from her. My prayers are with her whole family at this time.
