Leeman Keith Peterson, age 86, resident of Columbus, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Parkwood Health Care Facility in Phenix City, Alabama. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus.
Mr. Peterson was born in Leslie, Georgia, on October 17, 1932, the son of Leeman Albertus Peterson and Freddie Dell Findley Peterson. On February 24, 1952, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Melba Jean Moore. He was a member of the U.S. Navy having served on the USS Virgo, an ammunition supply ship during the Korean Conflict. They were members of Central Baptist Church for many years. Commonly referred to as “Pete” by his close friends and neighbors, he loved doing for and helping others.
Mr. Peterson was retired from the US Postal Service. In his spare time, he enjoyed putting his talents to work as a skilled upholsterer at his own local business, Peterson’s Upholstery. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Peterson is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Melba Jean, and two sisters, Dorothy Peterson and Shirley Lane. Survivors include one sister, Peggy Goree; one daughter, Bonnie Green and her husband, Gary, of Cataula, Georgia; two sons: Dennis Peterson and his wife, Jill, of Cataula, Georgia; and Larry Peterson and his wife, Betsy, of Fortson, Georgia; four grandchildren: Wayne Peterson and his wife, Jodie; Lee Peterson and his wife, Mandy; Holly Morris and her husband, Jon; and Rachel Bigbie and her husband, Patrick; five great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
