Katherine was born November 9, 1923, in Asheville, North Carolina. She was a devoted military wife to the late William J. “Bill” Roark and a loving mother to her children Dan and Becky. The family was stationed at various military bases around the world and called Columbus home after Bill retired from the US Army in 1971. Katherine worked on base at Fort Benning Dental Clinic No. 3 until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of Edgewood Presbyterian Church of Columbus where she enjoyed being a member of the Lively Ones and baking cakes for family night suppers. Her love of travel also took her to many fun places, of which her favorite trips were the cruises with her friends to the Carribean and Alaska. Katherine loved her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her and especially loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Presley Allison and Ernest B. Allison; her husband, William J. Roark; and her daughter, Rebecca Walburn. Katherine’s loving memory is to be cherished by her son, Dan Roark; her daughter-in-law, Martha Jane Roark of Columbus; her grandchildren: Shane Walburn of Michigan, Joe Walburn of Alaska, Allison Grainger and her husband Wendell of Aiken, South Carolina; and her great-granddaughters: Hannah and Leah Grainger of Aiken, South Carolina.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, July 26, 2021, from 5-7pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia. A Celebration of Katherine’s Life will be held at 11:30am Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Edgewood Presbyterian Church 3617 Macon Rd Columbus, GA 31907 with Reverend Connie Happell officiating.
