Joseph was born October 31, 1932 in Dallas, Texas to his late parents, Joe, Sr. and Loretta Griffin Simmons. After high school Joe joined the Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Following the Navy, he enrolled into the University Of Texas at Arlington. He met the love of his life on a blind date. Sixty-two years later, she was still the love of his life. Joe finished his working career in Columbus at Lummus Corporation. He loved his family and was involved in all their activities, sometimes having to travel great distances to be their biggest supporter. He was a wonderful role model for his children and enjoyed telling stories of his youth to his grandchildren with such good humor. Joe’s hidden talent was his amazing wood working skills. His legacy will live on through his family and the furniture he built for them.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Florence Simmons; son, Bill Simmons, and his three daughters, Alexandra, Christina and Samantha, their husbands and four children; daughter, Lori Barks, her husband, Jerry, and their children, Jake and Emily; sister in-law, Ann DeLoura, and her children, Michael, Catherine and William; and nephews, Tom and Bill Simmons; other family members and many friends.
