Joseph Richard “Dick” Hargett, 73, of Columbus, GA passed away April 3, 2014. He was born in Columbus, GA on December 6, 1940. Dick attended Shorter College in Rome, Georgia where he majored in music. He was married for 41 years to the late Suzanne Jones Hargett, and is presently married to Faye Hargett for 12 years. Dick had a fulfilling career in the grocery business. He owned Thrift Town Super Market and later owned The Frame Up. He was a member of the Rotary Club and First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir for many years; he also held the position of Interim Choir Director at various churches. Dick had a passion for music and singing. He is survived by his loving wife, Faye Hargett, two daughters, Melissa Hargett and Sue Beth Hargett Bunn (Ken), three step daughters, Connie Watson Heath (Dawson), Tina Watson Holland (Roy), and Tammy Watson Harris (Marc), a sister, Evelyn Hargett Haut, two grandchildren, Stephen and Suzanna Bunn, six step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Evelyn Hargett, his first wife, Suzanne Jones Hargett, his son Bill Hargett, two brothers, Bill Hargett and Bob Hargett and a nephew, Jeff Haut. Dick was a cherished member and Deacon at First Baptist Church. The family would like to invite friends to a visitation at the First Baptist Church, 212 12th Street, Columbus, Georgia, at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 7, 2014, with a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM followed by a private interment at Parkhill Cemetery, officiated by Dr. Jimmy Elder. In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate donations to the Bill Hargett Scholarship Fund at the First Baptist Church of Columbus.
