Joseph Vear Forsyth, a devoted father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, in Columbus, GA. Born on December 23, 1937, Joe lived a life filled with adventure, hard work, and an unwavering love for the open road.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Joe later built his career as a truck driver for Tom’s Foods and a bus driver for the Muscogee County School District. He took pride in his work and enjoyed every mile traveled, whether delivering goods or safely transporting students. His hands could build just about anything, and he had a knack for figuring things out, and was always offering his trademark response: “Doing about 50/50.”
Joe’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his daughters, Karen (Michael) Campion and Monica Farley; his son, Joe (Candace) Forsyth; and his beloved grandchildren, Kendra O’Donnell, Taylor Campion, Evan, Campbell and Lauren Farley, Alexis and Clayton Forsyth, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Phyllis Forsyth, who remained a devoted presence in his life even after their divorce.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph MT Forsyth; his mother, Elbertie Forsyth; his siblings, Willie, Azie Mae, and Enola; and his ex-wife.
Family and friends are invited to honor Joe’s life at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus, GA. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 6 to 8 PM, followed by a Funeral Service on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 2 PM.
