A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Sasser and Reverend Norman Dunlap officiating according to Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, GA. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jonathan was born June 3, 1971 in Ft. Hood TX, to Pat Gates of Columbus, GA and the late Reverend Dan Gates. He was a member of East Highland United Methodist Church and was employed by IBM Corp. where he worked as an Intel Team Lead. Jonathan served as former Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church for 3 ½ years. He started the “Thank You Soldier” organization where they would send out care packages to our Soldiers overseas, and received the Servant Leader Award in 2011 for his outstanding dedication to this cause. Jonathan was the founder of eprayerteam.com which included prayer groups worldwide.
Survivors include his wife Brooke C. Gates, daughter, Anna Catherine Gates, son Brandon Maxwell Gates all of Columbus, mother, Pat Gates, brother, Alan Gates and wife Tracey, two nieces, Breanna Gates and Olivia Gates all of Columbus.
