He was born in Columbus, Georgia on August 31, 1963 and lived most of his life in the Chattahoochee Valley. Jon enjoyed the great outdoors; he loved labrador retrievers, his 2004 Dodge Ram truck and to fish and hunt and go trail riding in his RZR. He graduated from Columbus College in 1995. He married Cheryl Butterworth on June 1, 1996. They settled into a quiet house in Harris County. Jon and Cheryl were both respiratory therapists and Jon worked for many years at the Roosevelt Rehabilitation Center in Warm Springs. Patients loved him. Jon loved to travel with his new bride. Trips out west became a passion, especially to Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Montana.
He was a silly, kind, caring and one of a kind man who loved his family, friends, adventure, and a simple life. His blue eyes and big smile will never be forgotten.
Jon’s loving memory will always be cherished by his loving wife, Cheryl Gallops; his brothers: Andy Gallops and Jason Gallops both of Columbus, Georgia; his sister-in-law Kim Manning and her husband John of Columbus, Georgia; his brother-in-law Howard Gierer of Savannah, Georgia , his many friends and coworkers, and his canine companions Ryder, Dixie, and Kate.
Jon often stated that when he passed he never wanted people to make a big deal about his death, therefore there are no scheduled services for Jon. Instead, his wife wants to have a celebration of his life on what would have been his 60th birthday, August 31, 2023.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared with the Gallops family at www.shcolumbus.com.
