John Douglas “Doug” Poston, 94, of Columbus died Friday, January 21, 2021 at Columbus Hospice. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery in Charlotte, NC with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating.
Mr. Poston was born October 20, 1926 in Charlotte, NC, the son of Roy Fred and Mamie Lou Rouse Poston. Doug was a resident of Columbus since 2002, and was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a 1957 graduate of Wake Forest College and received his masters degree in 1960 at Tulane University. He was employed by the Medical College of Georgia as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and was later associated with the University of Georgia and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Poston was a member of the Masonic Order of Masons becoming a 32nd degree in Scottish Rite, National Association of social workers, The Georgia Council of Welfare and the Lions Club.
Mr. Poston was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother, Fred Holmes Poston. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Poston of Columbus; two nieces, Elaine Brooks (William) and Deborah Farrow of Charlotte, NC; a nephew, Fred Holmes Poston Jr.; step children, Wynne Brocato (Byron) and Sam Dismuke (Sara) of Columbus and several grandchildren.
