Richard was born on Friday, July 23, 1948, to John Richard Griffin Senior and Mavis Cook Griffin. He was raised in the Columbus area and graduated from Jordan High School. After graduation he joined the Army and fought in the Vietnam War. After serving in the Army he married Diane Hufstetler on Saturday, October 9, 1971, together they had three children. Richard worked for BellSouth and ATT for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing and working with his hands. Through the years he learned to use his gifts to help others, becoming a regular Mr. Fixit. There are many decks, repaired items and projects that are a symbol of his love. He will surely be missed by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include; his wife Diane H. Griffin; one son, Wayne (Angela) Griffin; two daughters, Patricia (Scott) Potter, Tiffany Thompson; nine grandchildren, Megan (Eric) Lehman, Kaylee Griffin, Halleigh Woods, Hannah Woods, Emma Griffin, Jamison (Kortney) McGee, Bruce Thompson, Cameron Griffin, Elliot Thompson, one great grandchild, Joseph McGee; two sisters, Ernestine Allen, Judy (Richard) Allen; and one brother John Wayne (Janet) Griffin.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, in Edgewood Hall. A visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary and also one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment will be in the Parkhill Cemetery following services.
