John Thomas Brantley, 89, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on April 12, 2024. He was born in Bay Minette, Alabama to the late Frances Whitcomb Brantley and Clyde Lamar Brantley and was raised in Thomasville, Alabama.
He was a 1956 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor’s in Agricultural Science. Shortly after graduating from Auburn, John was drafted into the US Army, serving from 1956 until 1958. John was married to Betty Ann Samson in February of 1960 with 64 years of marriage. She was the love of his life.
John worked with the USAG (US Steel) from 60-87. John obtained his Master’s in Business Administration from West Virginia University in 1982. He began his career with Flournoy Development Company in 1987, moving his family to Columbus in 1988. He retired as Vice President of Development form Flournoy Development Company in 2014. After moving to Columbus John and Betty became members of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He was a proud member of the NOW Sunday School Class.
John’s passion was Auburn University sports, especially football. He was involved with the Auburn Alumni Association for many years. John loved attending football games at Auburn with his family and friends. He was everything Auburn. When the football game season ended John enjoyed and loved spending time with his family and friends, hunting or fishing, and keeping up with the trending stories old and new with his friends and their families.
John always had a joyful spirit, kind words for everyone, and a positive outlook. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and especially love him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister and two brothers. John is survived by his loving wife, Betty Ann Brantley; his son, Jeff Brantley; and daughter-in-law, Brooke Brantley.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 3:00 PM at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1104 2nd Ave., Columbus, Georgia 31901 with Reverend Thad Haygood officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the Parlor at St. Luke United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery.
