A visitation for family and friends for Johanna will be on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM with Reverend Edward Layfield officiating.
Johanna was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Elsie Hansens Hoekstra and Cornelious Hoekstra. She was married to her first late husband, Leon M. Poague. Johanna worked for many years at Holiday House Furniture as a bookkeeper. After the death of Leon, she married her late husband, Quincey M. Horton. She was Christian by faith and attended the New Apostolic Church where she was very active as a Sunday School Teacher, Organist, and Choir Leader. She was “Sister Joey” or “Aunt Joey” to all her church family.
She leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her daughter in love, Joan Gilliland and her husband Dannie Gilliland, their children and grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and Cornelious Hoekstra; her late husbands Leon Poague and Quincey Horton and her five sisters, Seena Hoekstra, Jennie Towne, Reine Darby, Swanee Cox and Elizabeth Newman.
