Jimmy was born to his parents, Cora and Wheatley Pierce, on March 9, 1937, in Dothan, Alabama. He spent his early childhood in Dothan before moving to Columbus. He attended Jordan High School where he met the love of his life, Katie Helen Duncan, at the age of 18. They were married on September 22, 1956. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Jimmy was a pillar of kindness, honesty and integrity. He was emotional when it came to his family and they all knew how much he loved them. There was nothing more important to Jimmy than his four children, eleven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren (with three more on the way) Jimmy worked for Coca-Cola in Macon, Jacksonville and Columbus. He retired from there after 25 years.
Jimmy was a Godly man who faithfully served the Lord throughout his entire life. He served as the minister of music at 2nd Baptist in Columbus for many years. He has been a member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church for 30+ years. Jimmy loved his Tuesday morning prayer group.
Jimmy and Katie were founding members at the Green Island Country Club where he enjoyed many rounds of golf and a good game of cards. Over the years they developed and maintained many decades long friendships which were an elemental part of their 65 year marriage.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Wheatley and Cora Pierce, his siblings Jeanette Farris, Marie Doyle, Ned Pierce, and June Bush.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Katie Pierce, his brother, Jack Pierce, his children Kellie (Russell) Henderson, Keith (Monica) Pierce, Kathy (Butch) Wright, Kim (Russ) Hudgins, his grandchildren Pierce Moore, Alex (Shane) Stevenson, Troy (Amanda) Moore, Tori (Ryan) Doyle, Kate Miller, Parker (Olivia) Hudgins, Cora Beth (Cole) O’Neal, Curt Miller, Daryl Lynn (AJ) Coker, Rachel Hudgins, and Mackenzie Wright, and his great-grandchildren, Allie Moore, Wyatt Stevenson, Ava Moore, Ellie Stevenson, Houston Moore, Reese Doyle, Katie Moore, Millie Hudgins, and Blakely O’Neal. He loved each and every one of them.
Until we meet again, we love you!
