Jerry Marcus Caldwell, age 78, passed away on September 5, 2011. Funeral services will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Mr. Caldwell was born on November 11, 1932 to the late William and Lucille Caldwell in Iron City, GA. He joined the United States Army at the age of 16, and was deployed in the 64th Field Hospital as a combat medic to Korea during the Korean Conflict. When he returned from his tour he worked at Fort Benning with the Civil Service until retirement after 33 years of service. He also retired from Callaway Chemical after 10 years of service. Mr. Caldwell was a Past Master of the Midland Mason Lodge #144, as well as a member of the Scottish Rite. He was very knowledgeable in many subjects due to him being an avid reader. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed dearly. Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by his two brothers, Dr. William Caldwell and George Caldwell as well as a sister, Helena Dailey.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 51 years, Ella Lena Caldwell of Columbus, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law, J. Marcus and Andra Caldwell, II of Columbus, GA and Donald E. and Alisa Caldwell of Atlanta, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mark Thompson of Fortson, GA; six grandchildren, Courtney Caldwell, Jeremy Caldwell, Taylor Caldwell, Hunter Caldwell, Jessica Thompson and Josh Thompson; a nephew and his wife, Stephen and Kathy Dailey of Atlanta, GA.
