Jeanette was born in Hawkinsville, Georgia on December 31, 1929. On January 18, 1948, she married her sweetheart, Bill Meeks. Through the years they were blessed with five children, nine grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. The center of her life was her family and friends. Everyone who knew her was amazed by her true Southern hospitality and her loving and caring nature. Jeanette was a very compassionate person who gave back to her community through her church. She also volunteered for local hospitals, the Southern Bell Pioneers, the Exchange Club, Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels (for over 20 years). She was an avid reader, a wonderful seamstress, and the best cook in Georgia. She and her husband enjoyed dancing of all types: jitterbugging, ballroom and square dancing. She enjoyed her morning walks with Bill even into the final days of her life.
She was proceeded in death by four brothers. She is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Bill Meeks of Columbus, three daughters: Connie Meeks McGough (married to Larry) of Mansfield, Texas, Jan Meeks (married to John Hall) of Melbourne Beach, Florida, and Rebecca Meeks Smith (married to Mike) of Phenix City, Alabama; two sons Randy Meeks of Columbus, Georgia and Phil Meeks (married to Sherry) of Atlanta, Georgia. The surviving brothers are Ray Spear (married to Frieda) of Dallas, Georgia and Wayne Spear (partner Murray Perlman) of Savannah, Georgia. A kind, loving, and strong Steel Magnolia; she will be sorely missed by her family, friends and her beloved cat, Chipper.
