The family will receive friends on Thursday, October, 12, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Striffler Hamby Mortuary on Macon Road. Funeral services will be on Friday, October 13, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Seth Hon, Senior Pastor of Grace Baptist Church officiating the graveside service at Parkhill Cemetery.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. “Tunney” Stapleton; her parents, Adell H. Smith and Barney C. Smith; her sisters, Eudelle S. Crowley and Vera S. Brashears; her brother and sister-in-law, Barney S. Smith and Janis J. Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise D. Stapleton, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews on both the Smith and Stapleton sides of the family.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church since 1965. She was especially close to the ladies of the
Mary & Martha Sunday School class. Many of whom she has reunited with in heaven.
She loved to travel with her sisters and her daughter. At various times they took some of her great nieces and great nephews on their travels. She especially loved the Great Smoky Mountains and the mountains of north Georgia. Perhaps the greatest trip she and Denise ever took was with her niece, Annette B. Riggs and her late husband, Rufus Riggs, to Alaska. God created a beautiful country and blessed her to see 48 of the 50 states.
Those wishing to honor her memory may make donations to either the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund at 2915 14th Avenue, 31904 or Paws Humane Society at 4900 Milgen Road, 31907.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.shcolumbus.com for the Stapleton family.
