Janice Ann Dummitt, age 67, resident of Columbus, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015 at her home. Funeral services are scheduled in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, on Saturday August 22, 2015 at 2:00pm with burial to follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm.
Mrs. Dummitt, daughter of the late Ernest Melvin Cantrell and Helen Mae Galloway, was born December 24, 1947 in Rosman, North Carolina. She graduated from Kaiserslautern High School in Germany. She also met her husband of 48 years, Shearl Dummitt while in Germany. They were married in May of 1966. Mrs. Dummitt was an active member of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron 1980-1981. She was a very giving and service oriented lady and throughout the years cared for her husband, mother and mother-in-law. Mrs. Dummitt loved being a grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed the companionship of her three dogs.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Shearl Dummitt.
Mrs. Dummitt is survived by her daughter, Helen Hostilo (Joey); son, Dean Dummitt (Heather); grandchildren, Joshua Hostilo (Janna), Tyler Hostilo, Krystal Daniels, Nathan Dummitt, Maddie Dummitt; great grandchildren, Lexi McCarty, Kali Daniels, Brocelyn Lucille Hostilo; and sister, Cindy Cantrell.
