James Alfred Watley was born at Bush Hospital in Columbus, GA to Jesse Junior and Fannie Lee Watley on October 21, 1952. He went to Baker High School and was married to Delia Watley on March 10, 1972. He was a Master Plumber for 31 years and owner of Watley Plumbing Company.
He was preceeded in death by the love of his life, Delia; brothers, Edward Watley, Stephen Watley and Franklin Watley.
James is survived by his children, Amanda Edwards (husband-Blake), Michael Watley (wife-Cindy), and Jason Watley (wife-Candice); grandchildren, Alexis Campbell, Janna Tibbit, Joseph Watley and Victoria Watley; great-grandchild, Linley Tibbit; brothers, David Watley, Terry Watley, Ronnie Watley and Mark Watley; and sisters, Pearl Mitchell and Linda Norris.
James was a devoted husband and loving father that worked hard to provide for his family and a great man, who gave us many things. He gave us life, unconditional love, knowledge, a great work ethic, taught us to hunt, fish and plumb, but most of all, he told us about faith in God. With that faith, we know that he is in heaven with our mom, his parents, three of his brothers and the rest of his family that have passed. Notice we didn’t say friends because he considered his friends as family. He enjoyed morning coffee on the deck with Amanda, fishing with Jo Jo, arguing with Jason (because they were just alike), checking for wheat pennies, hunting with Michael, and watching Fox News with his little shadow, Sassy.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy for the Watley family may be left at shcolumbus.com.
