Dr. Jim Venable was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late Douglas Randolph Venable and Esther B. Lewis Venable on March 6, 1930. Private graveside services are at Parkhill Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday and visitation is at Striffler Hamby Mortuary on Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Dr. Venable was a graduate of Columbus High School, Mercer University, A.B. and Tulane Medical School, M.D. He did his internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a resident in General Practices at Huey P. Long Hospital, Pineville, LA. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He had academic appointments at both Tulane; Assistant Professor and Emory University; Associate Professor. He was Editor of the “Bulletin” of the Muscogee County Medical Society for many years. He served as members of the American Medical Association, Medical Association of Georgia, Georgia OB-GYN Society, Continental OB-GYN Society, South Atlanta Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He published an article in the American Journal of OB-GYN, “Endometriosis of the Ileum: four cases with obstruction”. He was a Medical Advisor, Columbus Technical Institute and worked with the Medical Assisting program. He was a deacon at First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Betty Venable; children, Lisa Venable Herring (Greg), Doug Venable (Derwei), Katie Welz (Toran). Grandchildren are James H. Venable and Elizabeth Venable Lyashevskiy (Sergey) and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Liliya Lyashevskiy and Nikolas William Lyashevskiy.
