James R. "Jim" Jordan, age 80, resident of Columbus, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services are scheduled at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 6795 Whitesville Road, Columbus on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, 11 a.m. with Reverend Scott Tucker, Reverend (Dr.) Jim Jackson, Reverend (Dr.) Jim Cross, and Reverend (COL) Roy Plummer officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Private interment is scheduled at Parkhill Cemetery.
Mr. Jordan, son of the late James Carlton Jordan and Eva Beatrice Thomas Jordan, was born June 5, 1933 in Macon, Georgia. He attended Mercer University and later joined the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably in the Korean Era Conflict. After leaving the military, he began his career with the Credit Bureau of Columbus which under his leadership grew to encompass the CBC Group, serving West Georgia and East Alabama. During a dedicated period of over 50 years in the credit bureau business, Mr. Jordan served as Chairman of the Board, National Trade Association and President, Associated Credit Bureau’s of Georgia. He was very instrumental in the establishment of the Fair Credit Reporting Act because of his testimony to the U.S. Senate. Mr. Jordan was a member of the Rotary Club of Columbus and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a very active member of St. Mark United Methodist Church serving on the Finance Committee and Long Range Planning Committee.
Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife of 41 years, Leslie W. Jordan of Columbus; two daughters, Judith "Judy"Jordan Giddings and her husband Rusty of Columbus and Jayne Wendell "Wendy" Jordan of Macon, Georgia; one son, Gregory "Greg" Thomas Jordan and his wife Kelly of Columbus; two sisters, Carlyn Albright of Solomons, Maryland and Millie Stevenson and her husband James of Yulee, Florida; five granddaughters, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Giddings Miller and her husband Brian, Natalee Maree Giddings, Kelsey Jordan Kean and her husband Shep, Allison “Allie” Catherine Jordan, and Shelby Alexis Jordan, all of Columbus; two great-granddaughters, Elisabeth Carroll Miller and Paisley Jordan Kean; other relatives and friends; and his beloved dog, Claire.
