James worked for over 30 years and retired as a truck driver. His second career was owning a Bowling Pro Shop, where he was a preferred driller for many and became an excellent bowler, with several perfect games in his later years. James was very proud of his 56 years as a Mason with Capital View Lodge in Atlanta and Midland Lodge in Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy Coley (Stevens) Mixon; his children, Randolph “Randy” (Stace) Mixon, James “Jimmy” (Alice) Mixon; and stepchildren, Julie (Marvin), John (Pat), and Will (Kathy); as well as his 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sons, Kenneth “Kenny” Lamar Mixon, and Charles “David” Mixon; and his brother, Charles Wadus Mixon.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at Riverdale Cemetery, 1000 Victory Drive, Columbus, GA 31901 on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 2:00PM. Rev. Sam Coley will be officiating service. Family will visit with friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at the Riverdale Cemetery Pavilion.
