James was a Vietnam Veteran serving his country in the Army Special Forces as a Green Beret. James went on to serve various communities in Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama in the field of Law Enforcement. During this time he held various positions from Patrolman, Chief Deputy and Police Chief before retiring as an elected Constable for Russell County, Alabama. During his Law Enforcement career he received 5 commendations for his actions of Valor and was selected as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year in 1985 while serving as a Deputy Marshal in Columbus, GA.
James was part of the Columbus High Criminal Justice Club. He later attended Columbus College, South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and the Georgia Public Safety Academy. James also attended the Agape School of Ministry and North Carolina College of Theology. Dr. Johnson as he would later be known served as General Superintendent and an Ordained Minister of the Pentecostal Baptist Church USA.
James was preceded in death by his Step-Father Larry Wilson. James is survived by his wife Cynthia Diane Johnson, Mother Sarah Wilson, his Brother Freddie A. (Tina) Johnson and Nephew Joshua. Two step-sons Chris (Stacey) and Derek (Lindy) and five Grand Children.
