James D. (Jim) Hunter, 79, died Wednesday, August 3rd, 2016 at the home of his daughter in Newnan, GA. Visitation will be Sunday, August 7th, at Striffler-Hamby funeral home in Columbus from 3:00-5:00pm. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am Monday, August 8th, 2016 in Parkhill Cemetery with Reverend Mike Reeves and Reverend Mickey Adams officiating.
Jim Hunter was born January 10, 1937 in Columbus, Georgia, son of the late Eugene and Eunice Hunter. He was a 1956 graduate of Jordan High School and worked for many years in banking. Jim was a church league basketball coach for many years at Northside Baptist Church and encouraged many youth to know Christ and become involved in church activities. At the time of his death, Jim was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Fortson, Georgia.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Gloria Crook and Nancy Hunter; and brother, Ron Hunter.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Linda Shelley Hunter; son, Keith Hunter (Karen) of Columbus, Georgia; daughter, Kellie Reed (Todd) of Newnan, Georgia; granddaughters, Hayden Reed, Kendall Reed, Rio Hunter, and Lyndsey Barnes.
