A funeral service with full military honors will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, February 3, 2022 in the Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
CSM (Ret.) Gallagher was born May 8, 1932 in Hazleton, PA, son of the late James and Dorothy Hawkes Gallagher. He served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He was awarded a Silver Star and 5 Bronze Stars - 2 with V device.
(Ret.) Gallagher retired after 30 years of military service, then began a career in Civil Service at Ft. Benning, GA, retiring in 1997. He was also a Real Estate Agent for Showcase Realty. CSM (Ret.) Gallagher served as the Vice President of the AUSA Local Ft. Benning Chapter and served as President on the State level. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and served as its secretary for many years.
In addition to his parents, CSM (Ret.) Gallagher was preceded in death by his first wife, Nora, a son, Tim Gallagher, and brother, Vincent Gallagher.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Kathryn Gallagher; son, Michael J. Gallagher; daughter, Eileen Gallagher; granddaughter, Shannon Gallagher; two great grandchildren, Shawn and Joseph Gallagher; two stepchildren, David Lloyd and Courtney Sayler; four step -grandchildren, Rachel Sennett, Ben Lloyd, Abbie Lloyd and Deanna Sayler; two sisters, Pat Vacante and Mary Parrell.
