James “Jimmy” Edwin Cummings, Jr., age 77, resident of Columbus, GA, died Monday, September 30, 2024. Funeral services were on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Trinity Episcopal Church and was officiated by The Rev. Dr. Timothy H. Graham; a reception followed at the church with family and friends.
Mr. Cummings, son of the late Gloria Johnson Cummings and James Edwin Cummings, Sr. was born on April 29, 1947. He attended St. Elmo School and was a proud graduate of the 1965 class of Columbus High School. He received his bachelor’s degree at West Georgia College.
Never meeting a stranger, Jimmy joyfully shared stories and humor. His unwavering optimism and charismatic personality greatly contributed to his success as a salesman at Woodruff Robinson Company and Mass Mutual.
He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and his spiritual roots began at Trinity Episcopal Church. Steadfastly passionate and earnest, Mr. Cummings was a loving, devoted, and dedicated husband, father, and “Pops” to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: Abbie Stallcup (Scott), Sara Carver (Casey), and Katie Russell (Gil); grandchildren, Leighton Stallcup, Remi Stallcup, Stone Stallcup, Case Carver, and Jack Carver; sisters, Sandra Cummings Charlton (Rick) and Melinda Cummings Strickland, and his brother, David Cummings; sister-in-laws, Patty Callaway and Gail Cummings as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife who was the love of his life, Jane Hester Cummings; brother, Stevie Cummings; brother-in-law’s, Phil Strickland, Hugh Callaway and Bobby Ledford, and sister-in-law, Peggy Ledford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to MidTown, Inc. on Wildwood Avenue or favorite charity.
