Arrangements under the direction of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA.James O. Bradshaw, 99, of Columbus, GA, left this earth to be with his Heavenly Father, Friday March 17, 2017. The family will welcome guests for visitation, Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 5:00-6:00 PM in The Wildwood Room of Striffler-Hamby, followed by Funeral Services at 6:00 pm in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby with Reverend Howard White officiating. Interment will be at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery March 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM EST, officiated by Pastor David Bradshaw.
Mr. Bradshaw was born January 29, 1918, in Waverly, AL to his late parents, Boss and Mattie Sadler Bradshaw. After graduating high school, he joined the US Army and served in Papua, New Guinea and in the southern Philippines under General Douglas MacArthur during WWII. He received a battlefield commission to 2nd Lieutenant during the course of the war and is a triple Bronze Star as well as a Bronze Arrowhead recipient among a list of other ribbons and metals awarded for his service to our country. After WWII he returned to Columbus and held several positions with Metcalf Clothing, Clodfelter and Cunningham Clothing, and Lab- Corp. James was a humble family man. He was never heard talking about these achievements and honors. These were only discovered when his military service papers were found.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by: his loving wife of 64 years, Geneva Owens Bradshaw; brothers Woodson, Charlie and Billy Bradshaw; sisters Elsie McConnel and Mae Franklin. Those left to cherish his memory are: his daughter Kimberly (Stewart) MacDougall; granddaughter Korie MacDougall all of Columbus, GA; many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Columbus Hospice and Orchard View Skilled Nursing Facility for their dedicated, loving care of Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw.
