James H. Ashe, age 78, resident of Columbus, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011. He was the oldest son of the late Lovejoy and Lillie Belle Ashe. Mr. Ashe, a native of Columbus, GA., was a graduate of Spencer High, Savannah University, and Columbia University, New York. He served a short stint in the U.S. Army. Mr. Ashe was an Industrial Arts teacher in the Walker County, Harris County, and Muscogee County School Districts. He was the Co-Owner of the Ashe, Demps and Associates Insurance and Investment Company. Mr. Ashe was a faithful member of Rose Hill Memorial Baptist Church since his youth. He was a member of the National Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Mr. Ashe is survived by his loving wife, Ethel J. Ashe of Columbus; three children, Cedric, Carol, and Courtenay Ashe, all of Columbus; three grandchildren, Hillary (Toney) Frazier, Cedric and Cameron Ashe; four great-grandchildren; step-mother, Sarah Ashe; siblings, Willie (Frankie) Ashe, Bernice Wright, Sherry Method, Gladys Robinson, and Lydia (Leon) Mullins; brother-in-law, Booker (Dianne) Jones; special niece, Sharolyn Griggs; god sons, Bradford Jenkins and Walter Wright; a host of other nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; special friend, Bernard Hall; and many other friends.
