A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held at Wynnton United Methodist Church in Columbus on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11:00 am with Dr. Frank Parr and Reverend J. Grantham officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, GA is in charge of the arrangements. A luncheon in celebration of Jackie’s life will be held immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. All are welcome to attend.
Jackie was born on March 9, 1932 in Waverly Hall, GA. She spent the majority of her life in and around Columbus, GA. She earned both bachelors and master’s degrees in elementary education from Auburn University, Auburn, AL. After college she relocated to Cocoa Beach, FL. for a teaching job where she met her husband to be Jack. They were married in Columbus on July 18, 1964, and they returned to Columbus permanently in 1969.
After a 30+ year career as an elementary school teacher, most of which was at Waddell Elementary in Columbus, she retired and turned her focus to volunteer and community opportunities. She was active with the Muscogee Retired Educators Association, Doctors Hospital Auxiliary, Mohina Woods Garden Club, Waddell Has Beens, Wynnton United Methodist Church Goodwill Sunday School Class, and other groups. Jackie is preceded in death by her parents Homer Carl and Mattie (Lucas) Jones, and sisters Margret Schroeder and Jeanette Richardson
She is survived by her husband Jack Watkins, son Wayne Watkins, daughter-in-law Teressa Phillips, and numerous nieces and nephews.
All who knew her will remember her delightful, welcoming smile and sweetness.
