Jacqueline Cooper Beals Gatlin was born June 29, 1925 in McRae, Georgia. She passed away at her home on January 23, 2015 in Cataula, Georgia where she has resided since 1962. She was surrounded by her family.
Jackie, as known by her friends and family, was a 1962 graduate of Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia. During her time at Glynn Academy, she was associate editor for the Beach Comber, the school newspaper. She was voted most athletic in her senior class; she and her brother, Edwin Cooper, were double tennis champions at Glynn Academy. She was the niece of Mrs. H. B. Smith renowned schoolteacher of Glynn County. She attended Young Harris College in North Georgia and always had fond thoughts and memories of her teen years on the Georgia Coast. She worked as a clerk for the post office in Cataula, Georgia. Jackie was also a valuable asset in helping her son when starting his new pest control business. She enjoyed organic gardening, crafts, antiques, and most of all she enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren. Jackie was a loving grandmother and was anticipating the arrival of a new great grandson in February 2015. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and start families of their own.
Mrs. Gatlin was preceded in death by, Ralph W. Cooper, father; India L. Fincher, mother; Ralph W. Cooper, brother; Fleet R. Cooper, brother; Florence A. Tucker, sister; Edwin V. Cooper, brother; and Benji J. Gatlin, son.
Survivors include, Son, Clyde R. Beals, III of Midland, Georgia; daughter, Patti Music (Jimmy) of Brunswick, Georgia; daughter, Ginger Oakes (Robert) of Cataula, Georgia; son, Danny Gatlin (Jean) of Cataula, Georgia; and son, Randy Gatlin of Cataula, Georgia; 13 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, 1 due in February, and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Grandsons and Great-Grandsons, Steven Oakes, Benjamin Gatlin, Joseph Gatlin, Robert Moon, Troy Reed, Travis Reed and honorary pallbearer, Jacob Loudermilk.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 3:00 PM in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family asked that contributions, in memory of Jackie Gatlin, be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31909.
