Lord on December 27, 2017. He was born to Cecil Edward and Clara Belle
Langford in Newnan, GA on August 8, 1937.
Jack was raised in Columbus, GA where he graduated from Jordan High School in
1955. He worked many years for Georgia Highway Express in Montgomery, AL,
where he raised his family and eventually opened his own transportation
brokerage company, Cotton States Truck Brokerage. He was a long-time member
of Eastern Hills Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as a
deacon. He was also a member of the Montgomery Jaycees and Kiwanis Club.
Upon retirement, he returned to Columbus, GA, where his mother and twin sister
lived. Jack was an avid tennis player and golfer, as he played both weekly. He
loved traveling and visited many countries around the world, often with the
Friendship Force. He was always looking to help those in need and less fortunate
than he.
Jack is predeceased in death by his mother, father, and brothers Clark Langford
and Joseph Langford. He is survived by his wife Candy, sister June Langford,
brother Donald Langford and three children: daughters Beth Beno (Andy), Susan
Tate (Mike), and son Brent Langford. Jack leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Lauren
Russo (Patrick), Lacey Teal (Jay), Lindsey Beno, Andrew Beno, Shae Tate, Summer
Tate, and Christopher Tate. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, John
Patrick, Major, and Hardie Russo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life on Wednesday, January 3, at 11:00 at Striffler
Hamby Funeral Home, Columbus, GA, with visitation and a reception following
the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Salvation Army, as
that was Jack’s request every year for Christmas. Of course, a church or charity of
your choice would be much appreciated as well. His family is very thankful they
were able to celebrate Christmas with him just before his passing.
