Jackie Sue Barber, 85, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025. She was born on August 20, 1939 to the late Annie Lou and Talmage Quimbly. Jackie married John Barber, an Army Medic Soldier, on January 30, 1959. She quickly became a strong Army wife and mom, while enduring his two tours to Vietnam as she was raising six children. During John’s 22-year military career, they lived in Okinawa, Japan, California, and Texas before returning to Fort Benning, Georgia.
She was Christian by faith and her love for her faith reflected in her life. Jackie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a kind, caring, giving and compassionate matriarch of her family. She loved to read, color beautiful pictures on her iPad, and spend time out on her deck enjoying the fresh air. Jackie’s biggest, most heartfelt joy was just spending quality time with her family.
Jackie leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her loving children: Linda Ducker (Mack), Valerie Elliott (Randy), John E. Barber, Carol Lovejoy (Keith), Jeff Barber (Tina), and Jennifer Kavouniaris; her sister, Margaret Streetman; thirteen grandchildren; ten very great grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members. She is preceded in death by parents, Annie Lou Bullard Quimbly and Talmage Quimbly; her loving husband SFC (Ret.) John Barber; her son, David Wayne Barber, two sisters, and one brother.
On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Jackie’s family will visit with friends and family at Evangel Church, 5350 Veterans Pkwy, Columbus, GA 31904. A service to Celebrate Jackie will begin at 10:00 AM with Pastor Bud Rupel officiating. Jackie will be laid to rest in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 1:30 PM EST.
