Howard Bruce King, Jr., 67, passed away on his 67th birthday, Wednesday, October 12, 2022, in Columbus, Georgia. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022, 2:00 pm, in Chapel of The Pines Mausoleum at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. The family will welcome guest 30 minutes prior to the Service.
Bruce was born, and grew up in Fort Payne, AL As a young child, Bruce excelled in sports. He lettered in 3 sports in high school: football, basketball and baseball. He always gave 110% to his teammates and never backed down from a challenge, no matter the size. This was observed in his school sports, and later in his Army football games.
After high school, Bruce was awarded an ROTC Scholarship to Auburn University where he graduated and was inducted into the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and eventually promoted to Captain. Bruce was a caring and generous person who never met a stranger, and was willing to help anyone in need. He could converse with the highest ranking General or a homeless man on the street.
Bruce had a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Troy State University, and was Manager of Human Resources at Columbus Ledger-Enquirer and later Director of Human Resources at Macon Telegraph. He was long term President of the Phenix City Lions Club. Bruce encouraged people to not take life so seriously and he lightened difficult situations with his deadpan sense of humor.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Patti) Pratt-King; his sisters, Melanie King McDowell (John) and Carrol King Beckham (Ron); his wife’s nephew, Scott Mulkey, who he considered to be his nephew and friend; Nieces; Nephews; and many wonderful Friends.
Bruce was preceded in death by, his parents, Howard Bruce King, Sr., Barbara King McDowell, and his brother, David Tabor King.
