Herman Williams, 88, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Orchard View Assisted Living surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Williams was born February 10, 1927 in Columbus to his late parents Henry and Etta Powell Williams. He was a WWII Navy veteran, a Command Sargent in the Columbus Police Department where he retired after serving our community for 35 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Beallwood Baptist Church, and The Good Sam Camping Club. Mr. Williams loved to spend time with his family camping and fishing.
The family will receive guests for a visitation and reception Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby, followed by a Committal Service at Parkhill Cemetery with Reverend Billy Duncan officiating.
Along with his parents, Mr. Williams is preceded in death by three brothers; Howard, Elton, and Hubert Williams; four sisters; Louise Hughes, Grace McCleod, Vivian Knox, and Florence Hughes; two sons, Henry David Williams, and James Dennis Williams. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lilla Joyce Williams; his daughter Dianne (Denny) Neville of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Andrew Williams, Jeremy (Mandi) Neville, and Lori Neville; great grandchildren, Jade Williams, Tanner Neville, and Tucker Neville; nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
