He was the first child of Henry Andrew Slavico and Lillian Chavier Slavico. He was born in the Burrough of Manhattan in New York City on November 6, 1932. Hank served in the United States Armed Forces for 30 years, serving in the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star and two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from the U.S. Army he worked as a civil servant an additional 32 years and retired at the age of 80. At his retirement, he was inducted into the Order of St. Maurice for his meritorious service to his country. He was a Mason.
Hank was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, ECO. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David Charles Slavico, his sister Louise Slavico LaBerta and his beloved wife of 62 years, Ruth Minola Barber Slavico whom he met and married on June 12, 1954 in Columbus, Georgia.
He is survived by his son, Andrew Joseph Slavico, M.D. (Kathy), daughter Janet Peters and Jodi Thacker, sister Dorothy Slavico Magnussen (Jeff), three grandchildren and four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday April 28, 2023 in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Reverend Church Hasty officiating. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
