Helga Else Martha (Heiners) Bartsch, age 98, of Columbus, GA passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 15, 1926 in Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Karl Heiners and Martha (Karl) Heiners.
Helga married Hans Bartsch and they had 3 children. She immigrated to the USA on January 27, 2006 to be with her daughters and their families. She was a longtime member of Britt David Baptist Church. She loved to be in God’s house. In addition, she was always thinking of her homeland and for this reason she was a member of the Klub Heimatland (a German Club) where they met once a month to keep the language and traditions alive. She loved to solve German crossword puzzles, and she spent hours playing a board game called “Mensch Ärgere Dich Nicht”. She had a special bond with Daisy, her family dog.
Survivors include her children, Peter (Ingrid) Bartsch of Germany, Rosemarie (Larry) Platt of Columbus, GA, and Birgit (Phil) McDaniel of Midland,GA; her grandchildren, Petra Bartsch, Michael (Hannah) Bartsch, Christine (Winnie) Bartsch, all of Germany; Brian (Sonya) McFarland of Midland, GA, Christopher (Annie) McFarland of Acworth, GA, Jeffrey (Suzanne) McFarland of Corpus Christi, TX; John (Rebecca) McFarland of Guntersville, AL, and Eric (Blakeley) McFarland of Columbus, GA; her granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer McFarland of Phenix City, AL; her great-grandchildren, Vincent Bartsch of Germany, Brittany (Daniel) Usery of Columbus, GA, Alexis McFarland of Midland, GA, Lillian McFarland of Acworth, GA, Carson McFarland of Acworth, Gemma McFarland of Acworth, Lawson McFarland of Corpus Christi, TX and Bay McFarland of Corpus Christi, TX; James McFarland of Arizona, Skylar Theriault of Guntersville, AL, Noah McFarland of Guntersville, AL, Grayson McFarland of Phenix City, AL, Everett McFarland of Columbus, GA, Ellison McFarland of Columbus, GA, and Emery McFarland of Columbus, GA; a great-grandson on the way; and several step grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Helga is preceded in death by her grandson, Steven Dale McFarland and her son-in-law, Dennis McFarland.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Britt David Baptist Church, 2801 West Britt David Road, Columbus, GA 31909 on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 2:00PM. Dr. Tim Jones will be officiating the service. A Graveside Service will be held at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 2:00PM.
