Hazel Marie Sweger, 84, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on January 17, 2022. A funeral service will be held in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 2:00PM with a visitation one hour prior. Dr. Kevin Calhoun will be officiating.
Hazel was born on October 23, 1937 in Fort Benning, Georgia, to the late Arthur Samuel Sweger Sr., and Gladys West Sweger. Hazel was a long time member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church in Columbus and more recently a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was a retired comptroller for Columbus State University. She was a member of the Pilot Club of Columbus and served as president from 1969 until 1970 and again in 1985 until 1986. She was also the Governor of Georgia District Pilot International from 1993 until 1994.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Sweger was preceded in death by a niece Donna Klepper, great niece Betsy Anne Dean and a brother, Arthur S. Sweger, Jr.
Survivors include a niece, Kathy Dean and her husband, Tommy; nephew Bruce Sweger and his wife, Heidi; great nephews Brandon Klepper and Jackson Dean; great niece, Molly Oxford and her husband, Allen; great-great niece Raegan Dean.
