Smiths Station, Alabama- Hazel Virgina Mayo, age 87, resident of Columbus, died on Monday, August 26, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Thursday, August 29, 2013, 11 a.m. with Reverend Roy White officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 10-11 a.m.

Mrs. Mayo, daughter of the late Barnett Matthew Brunson and Leethy Virginia Johnson Brunson, was born June 28, 1926 in Baker, Florida. She was a homemaker and member of Living Grace United Methodist Church (formerly Edgewood United Methodist Church).

Mrs. Mayo was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert H. Mayo, Jr. She is survived by one daughter, Susan Mayo Ingram and her husband Lewis of Smiths Station, Alabama; two sisters, Corena Lanier and her husband Charles of Baker, Florida and Judy Griffith and her husband Donald, also of Baker, Florida; one brother, William Brunson and his wife Sylvia of Crestview, Florida; two grandsons, Eric Edge and his wife Megumi of Columbus and Joel Edge and his wife Celeste of Midland, Georgia; one great-grandson, Michael Edge; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
