Harry Stonewall Jackson died on December 27, 2024, at his residence. Harry was born to Harry Cook Jackson and Helen Lovein Jackson on December 27, 1950, at The Medical Center in Columbus, GA. In him, always, Harry had an exceptional capacity for expressing joy and delight in the people who defined his world.
Harry Jack, as he was often known, was blessed with parents who had the resources, the resolve, and the courage to seek environments, in addition to their home, which could provide opportunities for growth for their beloved son, who had developmental and intellectual disabilities. St. Paul Church was a source of faith and comfort for the family in determining the right paths for him. Harry first was in residence at The Woods Schools in Langhorne, PA, and in his adult years resided at The Baddour Center in Senatobia, MS. Harry’s gift of adaptive ability in each setting reinforced the wise and difficult decisions made on his behalf.
In 1999, again with wisdom and insight from his parents, Harry became a full-time resident in the stable and loving home of Julia and Sylvester Wagenti. As servant leaders of Christ, Julie and Les provided devoted care for Harry. They and their family, in conjunction with Harry’s own, became his life at home in Columbus. Harry also found companionship and fulfillment in various activities, particularly bowling and pottery, sponsored by the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Harry is predeceased by his parents; his brother-in-law, and Charles William Burgin. He is survived by his sister, Helen Jackson Burgin; nephew, William Jackson Burgin and his wife, Elizabeth Robinson Burgin; nieces, Helen Burgin Kilgore and her husband, Eric Channing Kilgore; and Merritt Burgin Pryor and her husband, West Wilcox Pryor. He also is survived by his great nephews, William Augustus Burgin, Alexander Wilds Burgin, and James Burgin Kilgore; and his great nieces, Emmie Jackson Kilgore, Helena West Pryor, and Catherine Wilcox Pryor. Additionally, cousins and his dear friend, Julie Wagenti, survive him.
Funeral services for Harry will be held at The River of Columbus Church, 10516 Mehaffey Rd., Midland, GA, on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Childs and Pastor Sam Coley officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Private interment will follow the service at Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler Hamby Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Wesley Glen Ministries, 4580 N. Mumford Rd., Macon, GA 31210.
