Harry Horne, 94, went to be with his Lord on Monday, September 6, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born to Walter and Gertie Horne on August 1, 1927, in Columbus, Georgia, where he lived his entire life.
Harry is survived by his wife, Ladye (Hughes) Horne; two step-daughters, Patti (Joel) Velasco of Tallahassee, Florida and Terri (Jerry) Lupo of Valdosta, Georgia; two step-grandchildren, Christy Peltier and Amanda Lupo; and three step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Horne of Phenix City, Alabama, and a special niece, Beth (John) Tripp of Macon.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Horne, and his siblings, Walter Horne Jr., Mary Elizabeth Powell, and John Earl Horne.
Harry worked for Lummus Mills in Columbus. He had a kind and gentle spirit spreading joy to anyone he met. He was a devoted and loving husband and family-man. He loved to laugh and enjoyed entertaining folks with stories from his life always ending them with a chuckle and a “of course, that was back in the ‘30’s.” When he wasn’t recounting tales from his childhood, he was a quiet man until inevitably breaking into song, usually one of his favorite hymns. He was a good and Godly man who truly lived his faith. He was a member of Gentian Baptist Church and enjoyed singing the gospel as a faithful member of the Amen Choir at Lakewood Baptist Church.
A graveside service for Harry Horne will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Striffler Hamby Mortuary. Memorial donations can be made to the Amen Choir at Lakewood Baptist Church, Phenix City, Alabama.
