Harold Pate

Mr. Harold Pate, 98, passed away on December 26, 2012 at his residence.  Graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 3:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus.  The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 1:30 – 2:30 PM on Saturday.

Mr. Pate was born October 24, 1914 to the late Walter Johnson Pate and Vina Nelson Pate.  He was well known in Columbus for his gardens, having been featured several times in the Ledger-Enquirer.  Mr. Pate had a true passion for gardening.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Whitley Pate and two children, Edward Johnson Pate and Rebecca Ann Hollingsworth.

Survivors include his six children, Eleanor Pate Shurr and her husband, Vincent of Savannah, GA, James Richard Pate and his wife, Geri of Columbus, GA, Mary Susan Pate Shueller and her husband, John of Savannah, GA, John Michael Pate and his wife, Irene of Columbus, GA, Harold Jerome Pate and his fiancè, Faye of Columbus and Thomas Dean Pate and his fiancé, Rosemary of LaGrange, GA; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
