Gloria Whitley

Gloria Whitley, age 67, resident of Columbus, died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Saturday, June 26, 2010, 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 25, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Mrs. Whitley, daughter of the late David Allen Dilleshaw and Agnes Fillingim Dilleshaw, was born January 6, 1943 in Columbus. She was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and was employed with Columbus Regional Medical Center for the past 32 years. Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Leon Whitley, Sr, and also two step-brothers, David Dilleshaw and Larry Dilleshaw. She is survived by one daughter, Robin Boswell and her husband Dale of Phenix City, AL; two sons, Chester Leon Whitley II of Atmore, AL and James Franklin Whitley of Columbus; one sister, Pauline Atkins of Anniston, AL; step-mother, Georgia Dilleshaw; companion, Ed House of Lumpkin, GA; 13 grandchildren; two half-sister; one step-brother; other relatives and friends. Mrs. Whitley will be remembered as a beautiful mother, daughter, sister, grand and great-grandmother. All who knew her will remember her as an unselfish person, always considered others before herself. She loved and cared for many. She was known as a co-worker who was hardworking and a compassionate person. She will be dearly missed.
