Gerald “Wayne” Smith, 65, of Phenix City, died on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Midtown Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, at 2:00pm with Reverend Hank Reeves officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Striffler-Hamby from 6:00-8:00pm.
Mr. Smith, son of the late Wiley Smith Sr. and Margaret Kimbrough Smith, was born December 3, 1950 in Columbus, Georgia. He was a life-long resident of Columbus and Phenix City and grew up in the Cascade Hills area. Mr. Smith was a driver for Radio Co-op Cab Company and previously managed Pizza Pronto for many years. He was a beloved husband, step-father, and grandfather who was devoted to his family and homelife. Mr. Smith loved animals, and was an avid Alabama Football, Falcons, and Braves fan.
He married his long-time friend, Barbara Clark Smith on March 17, 1998. Other than his wife, he is survived by his step-children, Benjamin Blanton (Lynn), Robin Marie Moore, Mary Hubble (Randy); grandchildren, Daniel Hamm (Lindsey), Joseph O’Neal Blanton, Morgan James Curlee (Haley-Mae), Elizabeth Amber Blanton, Mikayla Marie Gilchrist; brothers, Wiley Smith Jr. (Cathy), Mike Smith; sister, Debbie Whaley; brother-in-law, Glynn W. Clark; nephews, Johnny Byrd Jr., Jonathan Smith, Christopher Smith, Patrick Whaley; and niece, Christin Whaley.
