SSG Gerald "Jerry" Murphy Holt

SSG Gerald “Jerry” Murphy Holt “paw paw”, 91, of Columbus, GA passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM EST Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. Charles Hayes officiating. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 11, 2021 from 4-6 PM EST at Striffler-Hamby in Columbus on Macon Rd.

Mr. Holt was born July 2, 1930 in Luthersville, GA to the late George Murphy Holt and Sophia Harris Holt. He served in the Marines and Air Force. He later delivered bread to a grocery store and met the love of his life, Bettie Lou and the two were married two weeks later. He loved fishing, Braves baseball and Georgia football. His battle with blindness in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the struggles, Paw Paw came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.

He is proceeded in death by his wife, Bettie Lou Holt, daughter Ann Nichols and son David Holt. He is survived by his children Steve Holt (Cindy) of FL., Mike Holt (Terry) of AL., Kenny Holt (Karen) of FL., Nancy Holt of GA., Jeff Holt of TX., Mary “Polly” Horne of FL., brother Donald Holt of GA., many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Flowers can be delivered to Striffler-Hamby in Columbus on Macon Road.
