George was a graduate of LaFayette High School. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and later from Columbus State University with a Bachelor’s of Science.
George was married to Georgette Forrester on June 1, 1969 in Fairfax, Alabama. They had two children and would call Columbus, Georgia home. George worked for the Department of Labor, Department of Defense and retired from Total Systems as a computer programmer. He was an avid reader and enjoyed crosswords. George enjoyed college football, especially Auburn and watching NASCAR racing. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. George was Christian by faith, he and Georgette attended church at First Baptist Church of Columbus, Georgia. He was a loving brother, husband, Dad, and Grandfather. He will be forever in the hearts of all who loved him.
George is survived by his loving wife Georgette Forrester Nixon, son Mike Nixon and his wife Jessica; daughter Gina Nixon; grandson Connor Nixon; granddaughter Ella Nixon; and sister Sue Nixon Coleman. He was preceded in death by his parents Louise and Barney Nixon.
A Celebration of George’s life will be held on Saturday March 5, 2022 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, Georgia. Family will visit with friends before and after the service.
In lieu of flowers the Nixon family has ask that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 5900 River Rd, Suite 301, Columbus, GA 31904.
