Talbotton, GA- Gary Dean Page, of Talbotton, Georgia, died Thursday, November 13, 2014 surrounded by his family at home.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 16, 2014 in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA. The family will visit with friends in Edgewood Hall beginning at 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 16, 2014 immediately before the memorial service.
Mr. Page was born in Nashville, Tennessee, son of the late Eugene Davis Page, Jr. and Mary Jane Dean Page. He graduated from Isaac Litton High School and Vanderbilt University. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and played on the Vanderbilt baseball team. For many years he held the record for the longest home run ever hit in the Vanderbilt baseball stadium.
After graduating from Vanderbilt he began a 30 year career with IBM. After retiring from IBM, he served for a few years as head of the Human Resources division of Synovus and TSYS.
In 1956, Gary married his high school sweet heart, Donna White. In 1968 Gary and Donna and their daughters moved to Talbotton, Georgia, where they purchased and restored the former home of Georgia Governor George W. Towns, built in 1828.
Gary was actively involved in many civic organizations in Talbotton and Columbus, and was a devoted member of the Talbotton United Methodist Church. Gary was a founding member of the Board of Trustees of Historic Talbotton Foundation, a driver of the formation of the Talbotton Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the Talbotton City Council and a member of the Talbotton Lions Club. Gary was a member of the Rotary Club of Columbus, a sponsor for Junior Achievement and Girls Club of Columbus, a member of the board of the Arthur J. Moore Methodist Museum and Library at Epworth by the Sea. He had a life- long love of history, and a life-long interest in people. Gary served as a mentor, a Father figure and a counselor to many people, and he provided assistance to countless people in need.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Donna Page, four daughters: Garilou Page, Betsy Page, Patty Page Smith (Stone), and Laura Page Rogers (Jimmy), five grandchildren: Patrick Mason, Page Hall Perrault (Taylor), Becky Hall, Abby Rogers and James Rogers, and his sister: Carolgene Page Leftwich (Jim).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Talbotton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 513, Talbotton, GA 31827.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Frank D. Brown, Otis Burnham, Robert Hecht, Hudson Garrett, John P. Illges, III, David Jordan, Slade Johnson, Jerry Newman, Henry Persons, Tom Persons, Larry Stephens, Jim Thompson, and Cecil Whitaker.
